If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

- Rudyard Kipling

*I didn't plan it but suddenly this week has become a week of poetry for me. After being so inspired by 'Invictus' a dear friend showed me Rudyard Kipliing's masterpiece and I thought I should share it as well.

  If you believe in Ghana
If you believe in the ability of Ghanaians
If your pessimism can turn round
Yours will be praise and hail of Ghana

If the tiny lads can do it Angola
If they can prove wrong doubters
If your tongue sing their praise
of their rare manly achievement
Yours will be praise and pride of Ghana

  Ato i can't make the head and tail of your poet but all the same i do remember one that i leart over two decades ago in kindergatern.:

If it's mine and i gave it to you it is still mine.
If we own it together, it is mine.
If i have the might to take it away from you it is mine.
If i gave it to you and change my mind, it is mine.
God bless Ghana

  Ato,

I read this poem in a book I believe by Albert/Comfort Ocran a couple of years back. Sam Jonah quoted this poem as one of the poems that inspired him all those years.

Three points stand out for me

"If you can dream and not make dream your master"

"If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken,Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools"

and

"If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same"

I kept these points in my heart all those years ago and I still very much do each day.

Years later I read (Sam Jonah and the making of Ashanti) of how the boy from Obuasi will take the one mine Ashanti Gold fields and turn it into a multinational company and go as high as the New York Stock exchange to ring the opening bell then If I were to dream and not make dreams my master, I will do same and greater before my day is done.

  the world is full of adventure, indeed my little reading of 2 hrs a day has shown that great men like your caliber are of good repute . Ato such a poem is not only an inspiration but also lesson in ones life . One of my mentors ,Brian Tracy wrote in one of his book , millionaire habit , he noted that one should keep the mind clean and always concentrate on win-win solution , one should not forget to read about murders, thieves , political tricksters and societal misfits. it is a tittle tattle , i have always loved you and i make sure i do not miss you a day on joy newspaper review. my advice to you try to keep your mind clean.
